We have a unique communication style at Hugging Face that consists of three pillars:
- Decentralization
- Decentralization means that decision-making is distributed throughout Hugging Face, rather than being concentrated at the leadership level.
- Each of our teams is responsible for its own decision-making. Decisions should be made as close as possible to the team members who are directly involved in creating and implementing the work.
- Teams at Hugging Face operate with a high degree of autonomy and have the freedom to choose how they meet their goals and objectives. This leads to higher levels of innovation and creativity, as well as a greater sense of ownership.
- Transparency
- Always, always, always default to public Slack channels when asking questions and sharing information internally. This allows all team members access to important information.
- When communicating externally, default to having public discussions openly in GitHub and/or the Community Tab in the Hugging Face Hub to encourage input from our users and greater community.
- Share what you are working on as early as possible and ask for feedback. Keep us involved in each step of the process. We can leverage our diverse mindset to make amazing things.
- Candor & Direct Feedback
- We do not shy away from feedback because that’s what makes us better faster stronger 💪
- We encourage individuals from varied backgrounds, identities, and perspectives to speak openly from the standpoint of their expertise to build consensus. This is an inclusive approach that fosters diverse viewpoints.
- Give your opinion and feedback freely, even if (especially if) it is negative and constructive. We want to foster healthy debates and appreciate all perspectives. Your insights and expertise are important, and all opinions contribute to our growth.
- We foster an environment that values and recognizes contributions. We encourage a collaborative and appreciative atmosphere within our broader community.
