License
Hi!
Thanks so much for making this amazing model. It's really cool to see a model that ranks highly on the leaderboards!
I was wondering if you had any plans to change the license to a more standard license such as Apache 2.0 or MIT. The Yi License currently pretty restrictive, and some people are simply not using it because of the license (source).
Changing the license would allow much more innovation and support the open-source community.
Thank you for considering!
Agree. that would increase it's impact a lot.
Agree. This would be greatly appreciated!
I fully support the idea but I don't think it will happen. Even without considering their commercial interests, Yi is located in China which has the most strict policies on AGI. So there is no chance.
@flyingfishinwater AGI? Are LLMS considered AGI?
Sorry, it's Artificial General intelligence (AGI). All LLM are included in AGI
with a sufficiently broad definition of AGI, you can also recognize random number generators as AGI.
There is some serious advocacy for that, in disguise.

It's not general intelligence until it is capable of doing everything a human can. Which LLMs certainly cannot do (yet - that we know of).. Is there some definition in China about what is and isn't an AGI?

"第二条 利用生成式人工智能技术向中华人民共和国境内公众提供生成文本、图片、音频、视频等内容的服务(以下称生成式人工智能服务),适用本办法"
"Article 2: The provision of services to the public within the territory of the People's Republic of China using generative artificial intelligence technologies to generate content such as text, images, audio, and video (hereinafter referred to as generative artificial intelligence services) is subject to these regulations."
From my understanding, text, images, audio & video generation are all included.
Thanks for the reference! Does this restrict commercial usage?
Thanks for the reference! Does this restrict commercial usage?
@mrfakename To my understanding, Interim Measures for the Administration of Generative Artificial Intelligence Services (生成式人工智能服务管理暂行办法) does not restrict commercial usage. (BTW, I am NOT lawyer :) , just personal opinion)

这个只是适用于提供服务的服务提供商,并不管模型的权重的许可,准确的说,中国目前而言是没有对训练出来的模型本身有什么法律限制的,具体的模型的license应当以厂商为准。
This only applies to service providers who provide services, regardless of the license of the model's weight. To be precise, currently in China, there are no legal restrictions on the trained model itself, so the specific model license should be decided by the manufacturer.
Hi, is there any update on this? @richardllin
Kai-Fu Lee and 01 AI have called this model "open sourced" on Twitter/X, it would be great to switch to an open source license.
Closing as Yi 1.5 is now open-sourced!
